Pedorthics

Therapeutic/Diabetic Shoes and Insertsimage 1

For the person with diabetes, whose nerve and circulatory functions are impaired, foot problems are more common and can be more serious. Neglect of a diabetic foot problem can frequently lead to severe complications.

Pedorthic solutions include custom molded shoes, depth inlay shoes, therapeutic and orthopedic shoes for all ages, as well as supports for diabetes patients, arthritis patients, and athletes and weekend warriors who need additional support for running and walking on a temporary or permanent basis.

Specialized areas of pedorthics include:

  • Adult foot deformities
  • Arthritis
  • Diabetes
  • Overuse injuries
  • Post-polio symptoms
  • Trauma
  • Partial foot amputations
  • Congenital deformities
  • Geriatrics
  • Sports-related injuries
  • Pediatrics/rotational disorders

Most insurance companies cover the cost of diabetic shoes.

CFI also offers a wide variety of therapeutic and orthopedic shoes, and our experienced certified pedorthists are skilled in achieving a comfortable custom fit, as well as devising appropriate solutions to a lengthy list of common foot problems:

  • Plantar fasciitis (heel spur)
  • Metatarsal breakdown
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Bunions
  • Hammertoes
  • Tendinitis (heel pain)
  • Metatarsalgia
  • Interdigital neuroma
  • Plantar ulceration
  • Posterior tibial tendon rupture
  • Pes planus (flat feet)
  • Pes caves (high arches)

Many pedorthic solutions, such as therapeutic shoes, padded toe sleeves, toe crests, inserts, arch supports, and ankle-foot orthoses, are available from major manufacturers. Most come in a range of standard sizes and shapes. Some may be fitted directly to the patient with a minimum of adjustment; others require careful and very specific customization to adjust them to fit your specific contours and size.

This is why it is important that your prescription be filled by a trained and qualified professional pedorthist, who is familiar with the available solutions and the fitting processes for each—and who pursues continuing education in this area to keep current with the very latest techniques.
